EDUCATIONAL LEADERSHIP
Judge Tyler Green grew up in Floyd County and began his education at Garrett and Duff Elementary Schools. He is a 2001 graduate of Allen Central High School. Committed to staying close to home, Judge Green attended Pikeville College, where he majored in history and political science. During his time there, he developed early leadership skills while serving the student body as Vice President of Student Government.
With a lifelong goal of becoming an attorney and serving Kentucky in a judicial capacity, Judge Green enrolled at the University of Kentucky College of Law following his undergraduate studies in 2005. Throughout law school, he continued to demonstrate leadership as a member of the Trial Advocacy Board and President of the Student Bar Association. He also devoted time to community service through the College of Law Legal Clinic, assisting underserved members of the Commonwealth with a variety of legal matters. Judge Green graduated from the University of Kentucky College of Law in 2008 and returned home to Eastern Kentucky to begin his legal career in service to his community.

CAREER
Judge Green began his legal career as an Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney in Pike County, a position funded by the Rural Drug Prosecution Assistance Program. In this role, he prosecuted drug and drug-related offenses, gaining extensive trial experience and working to prevent dangerous substances from harming the community.
He later served as Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney for Knott and Magoffin Counties while also practicing with Martin Law Offices. This period allowed Judge Green to broaden his experience in civil law, further developing into a well-rounded attorney across multiple areas of practice.
In August 2010, Judge Green returned home to Floyd County to serve as Assistant Floyd County Attorney. For more than twelve years, he spent nearly every day in Floyd District Court. His work as a prosecutor focused on serving the people of Eastern Kentucky and helping make his home community a safer and better place to live and work. Throughout his career, Judge Green has been actively involved with Drug Court programs at every stage, serving Pike, Magoffin, Knott, and Floyd Counties.
Judge Green also brings significant experience in municipal law. He served as City Attorney for both Wayland and Wheelwright, where he attended council meetings, prepared legal documents and ordinances, and provided guidance on issues critical to those communities. In addition, he proudly served as attorney for the Allen Volunteer Fire Department.
SERVICE AS YOUR FLOYD
COUNTY DISTRICT JUDGE
Judge Green was elected Floyd District Judge in 2022. During his first term, he has worked tirelessly to serve the people of Floyd County. With the support of the community, Judge Green has placed a strong emphasis on addressing drug addiction and mental health challenges. He currently oversees Floyd District Drug Court and played a key role in establishing the county’s Mental Health Court. He is committed to treating all parties who come before the court with dignity and respect while upholding the rule of law.
Beyond Floyd County, Judge Green has actively represented the community at the state level, making numerous trips to Frankfort to advocate on its behalf. These efforts helped secure Floyd County’s selection as one of the first sites in the Commonwealth to receive state funding for a mental health court.
During his first term, Judge Green has been appointed by the Chief Justice to the Kentucky Judicial Commission on Mental Health. He has also been appointed to serve on the Specialty Courts Certification Board and the Specialty Courts Judicial Advisory Committee, as well as the District Judges Legislative Committee. Most recently, Judge Green was appointed co-chair of the District Judges Education Committee, serving district judges across Kentucky. He values the opportunity these roles provide to share Floyd County’s progress and collaborate with colleagues statewide.
Having served in a variety of roles within the state court system, Judge Green understands firsthand what it takes to effectively carry out the responsibilities of a District Judge. His experience as a prosecutor, municipal attorney, and now sitting judge has provided him with a practical, working knowledge of the law, courtroom procedure, and the real-life impact judicial decisions have on individuals and families. Judge Green has done the job and continues to do the job each day, bringing experience, preparation, and steady leadership to the bench.
